My wife and her sister will be spending two nights in Dublin in May. They like history and walking so they are considering taking both a Rick Steve’s recommended walking tour and a pub crawl. Rick has his recommendations but they would like to hear from recent travelers and locals on what you would recommend. They also have “included” tickets to the Emigration Museum and are wondering if this is the best use of their limited time versus other attractions.
I enjoyed the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl, featuring a short reading from Beckett and a long walk through Trinity College to three iconic pubs. Interesting information, entertaining guide, colorful drinking establishments. I enjoyed the literary part more than the beer part, but YMMV.
There are also musical pub crawls that might appeal more, but there's also good music in lots of pubs that you don't have to crawl to with other people.
My daughter and I did the Traditional Irish Music Pub Crawl that included dinner. It was not much of a crawl - it met at one pub, then we walked over to another pub where we enjoyed the meal and some music, but It was still well worth the money.
