Dublin Vintage Tea tour vs Hop on Hop Off

A group of four of us will be in Dublin for a few days at the beginning of September, prior to an organized tour. The Vintage Tea Tour looks fun, but reviews are mixed. Wondering if the Hop on Hop off bus might be a better use of our time and money, with lunch at a pub along the way. Any recent experience in this group?

I love the tea bus. I have done it twice and done a similar one in London and in Edinburgh. The thing about the HOHO bus in Dublin, IMO, is that everything is very close together, so as a form of transportation, it's not really needed. And as a tour, it goes very slowly. Of course, the tea bus goes very slowly, too, which you want when you're drinking a hot beverage. I don't see them as having anything to do with one another, really. The tea bus is just a fun thing to do. It's not a tour (although they do take you out to Phoenix Park, so maybe?).

I was checking the Vintage Tour bus reviews on Trip Advisor and they are nearly all very positive. Many are by first time posters, but there others by people who have several reviews under their belt. One review which I did notice concerned booking written in June of this year, complaining they got a seat on the lower deck. The response was

During the online booking process there is a note stating "Please note
seating is assigned first booked, first served beginning with upper
deck and then the lower deck." Your booking was made on the 22nd of
May (4 days before your tour) and at this time the upper deck was
fully booked.

So perhaps the moral is don't leave booking until the last minute....
