Dublin: two short stays

We have two short Dublin visits coming up at the end of September:

First visit:

  • arrive Saturday 30 September at 07:10 (overseas flight)
  • depart Sunday 01 October at 06:20 (heading to Madrid)

Second visit:

  • arrive Thursday 12 October at 13:35 (from Malaga)
  • depart Saturday 14 October at 08:30 (overseas flight)

On September 30 we have an airport hotel booked, on October 12 we are staying south of St. Stephen's Green for two nights. We do not have plans other than to visit the Famine Memorial, wander around and see some sights, and perhaps stop at the Guinness Storehouse. Is there a suggestion as what to see on our first stop and what is best saved for our return in October?

Thanks

The RS guide to Ireland lists how to prioritize your time in Dublin. We followed the RS recommendations and were not disappointed.

I loved the Chester Beatty Library. RS only gives it 2 stars, but I would give it all the stars.

We have reviewed the guidebook a little more and we are thinking to take the "O'Connell Street Street" on our first day. This will keep us outside and moving. Perhaps an historical walking tour would also be a good plan for later in the day. The Famine Memorial is also close.

Our return visit will allow more time to visit other sights such as Trinity College, Book of Kells, Guinness, etc.

Does this sound reasonable?
