Dublin to Kinsale--short trip?

Hello,

I have a layover in Dublin, en route to Spain, which I have decided to extend into a real, short, holiday. I visited Ireland 21 years ago, as a child, and, honestly, have happy, but vague, memories. When my mother (now deceased) and I visited Ireland, Kinsale was our favorite place, but I don't exactly remember why. I am tempted to add a day to my trip to make a return visit--for purely sentimental reasons--but it seems like public transport isn't easiest way there (I think my mother and I took a taxi to Cork, and then the train to Dublin). My question to more experienced travelers is: is this a side trip (either a day trip, or a single overnight) worth making, beyond the simple nostalgia factor? I realize this is somewhat subjective, but any input on the subject will be welcome. If it's relevant, I will be there in mid June.

Thanks!
Caroline

Hello Caroline, greetings from Ireland,
A 1-2 day trip to Kinsale with an overnight is perfectly doable and in my opinion a great idea.
Simply take the train from Dublin to Cork, Make sure and book it online. Www.Irishrail.ie
Opt for the first class carriage or just upgrade when you get to the station (about €20 extra)
When you get to Cork you can then take the bus to Kinsale or simply take a taxi. The taxi will be expensive (maybe €50) but as travellers we should put a value on our time and consider also the hassle factor involved with Irish public transport.
Lots of nice places to stay in kinsale, be sure and stay somewhere central. Restaurants are fantastic and the pubs a delight. Checkout the 'White House' and 'Kitty O'Ses' for Irish music (though there are many others)
I could ramble on forever about the joys of Kinsale. But for now, my advice would be - go there! :)
