My husband and I are flying into Dublin in a couple of weeks, spending 2 nights there then picking up rent car at the airport for remaining 10 days of the trip--our B&B's are all booked based on availability, etc. The majority of the trip is slow paced with time to see interesting sights along the way, however, our first day will be long as we are driving Dublin to Kinsale. Knowing we can't see everything along the way, if choosing between a stop in Kilkenny or one at Rock of Cashel which is recommended? We have 2 nights in Kinsale so not necessarily important to arrive early in the day. Thank you
What are your interests in Kilkenny? Just seeing the castle? There's plenty to do there, whereas in Cashel, it's really just the Rock. I typically recommend that people try not to go overboard when planning drives in Ireland, but honestly, if you got an early start from Dublin and didn't mind getting to Kinsale later in the day, you could absolutely first head to Kilkenny, see the castle, maybe even get to St. Canice's Cathedral and climb the round tower, have lunch in Kilkenny. Try to be out of there by 1:30 or so, then head to the Rock of Cashel, take the tour and walk around, and still be to Kinsale in time for dinner. It would be an ambitious day, but I really believe it is entirely possible. Almost all of that would be along real highways (with the exception of a portion of the drive from Kilkenny to Cashel, and then from Cork to Kinsale.
Thank you, that is what I needed to know! I appreciate your comments
I was wondering about that drive as well. Thank you for your answer Steve:)
