Dublin to Kinsale - how much time for stops at Kilkenny and Rock of Cashel?

Hello,

I am planning to pick up rental in Dublin and drive with family to Kinsale in one day. I want to stop in Kilkenny as well as Rock of Cashel on the way. How much time should I allow for Kilkenny, just lunch and walk around town or is there enough time to visit the castle too before heading to Rock of Cashel? Thanks so much for any advice!

It’s been a while, but believe we spent no more than 1.5 hours at the R of C. Spent the night in Kilkenny and a couple hours walking around would probably be sufficient. The castle was closed when we arrived, and hadn’t opened when we left in the morning, so we didn’t have a chance to go in. We ate at the Kyteler Inn and the food was fine. If you drive back to Dublin, Avoca has a nice woolen mill. The town itself was used as Ballykissangel in the UK TV series with the same name. The monastic city at Glendalough and the walking paths and waterfall we’re also worth a stop.

Thanks so much for all the info! I just did not want to spend too much time in Kilkenny and have to cut Rock of Cashel short due to long ride to Kinsale. I'll plan a couple of hours in Kilkenny and then continue on my way! Will definitely try to visit some of the other sights you mentioned!
