Leaving Dublin Airport rental agency 10am on Friday next month headed to Kilkenny. Question is taking r-115 thru Wicklow mtns and Glendalough would it be too much so as to arrive in Kilkenny before dark. Also first time driving in Ireland which we will be doing for 2 weeks.

Depending on where you are starting from in Dublin, this is about 165km drive (just over 100 miles.) Although it is slow driving, you can easily do the drive in 3-4 hours (plus time for stops) . Clocks will have gone forward to Summer Time so sunset is about 8pm.
