Dublin to Ennis

I will be flying into Dublin on a Saturday morning. I will need transportation to Ennis where my tour will begin on Sunday. What are your recommendations for transport? How frequent is the service?
Do I need to purchase tickets on line in advance or can I purchase when arriving in Dublin (just in case of any airline delays)? Lastly, where does the transportation originate? (Hopefully right from the airport.) Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Citilink buses leave directly from DUB airport zone 10 for Ennis and take 3:15. You can only buy tix at the bus departure location. Schedules can be viewed on the Citilink website.

We are doing a similar thing, flying into Dublin and starting our tour in Ennis. Planning to take a taxi from airport to Heuston train station in Dublin, then take the train to Ennis with one change at Limerick Junction. Lots of choices timewise.

As City!ink only run every 4 hours- 6am, 8am, noon, 4pm, 8pm and 0030 you would need to determine on the ground whether it was faster to take a bus or taxi to Heuston then a Galway train changing at Athenry or a Cork train changing at Limerick Junction, if you had just missed a bus.
Yes an on the spot train ticket is more expensive but it seems a poor use of time to sit around the airport for hours in a jet lagged state.
0700 arrive 0955, 1009 arrive 1309, 1200 arrive 1459 via Limerick
0735 arrive 1141 , 1130 arrive 1457 via Athenrry

We recently visited Dublin and also met our tour in Ennis on a Sunday. We stayed in Dublin for a few days before departing to Ennis, so our situation was a bit different than yours, but travel from the airport and to Ennis were both very easy.

To get from the airport to Dublin we used the Dublin Express bus. We followed the signs for ground transportation out of the terminal to the Dublin Express area, told the man at the kiosk where we wanted to go (Heuston Station is one of the stops), paid at curbside, and away we went. It took about 40 minutes to get into Dublin and it cost 10 euros per person.

We took the train to get to Ennis. I purchased the tickets on-line from the Irish Rail website (https://www.irishrail.ie/en-ie/). I purchased tickets in advance because it looked like they sell out. We took the 1130 departure and arrived at about 1500. It is about a 15-minute walk to the hotel from the station, but it's flat. The train ride was very pleasant and took about 3.5 hours with an easy change in Athenry.

We ended up taking a taxi to the airport from our hotel at the end of our tour. Our tour ended at the Iveagh Garden Hotel. There was a Dublin Express stop about two blocks away from the hotel, but it was dumping rain the day we left, so we opted for dry over cost. The taxi took about 45 minutes and cost 35 euros.
Good luck, and happy travels!
