Dublin & The Burren - where in between?

Hello! American here who spent the last few weeks planning 7 days in Ireland using the guide. I'm traveling with my husband, our 10-year-old son and my 72 years old mother-in-law. We have two bucket list items: do some genealogy research, and charter a Pike Fishing trip. I originally planned 2 days in Dublin, so we could meet with a consultant at EPIC, then 1 day on the road either Kilkenny or Kinsale, 2 days in Killarney where I was hoping to find the fish, and then a day on the Ring of Kerry, followed by a day in Galway (stop at the Cliffs of Moher). But the charter I found and love is in The Burren.

Trying to figure out the best route and stops between Dublin and Ennis.

Any recommendations?

I would recommend doing some advance genealogy research and use the information to plan your stops. Last summer, I went to Ireland with a friend whose great-grandfather emigrated in the late 19th century. She had minimal information, but it included the village where the family had a business, the approximate location of the family home (which no longer exists) and the burial place of her great-great-grandparents. Being in those places was a powerful experience for my friend, even though she didn't know any of these people and hadn't grown up hearing about them or their home (like a lot of us who are descended from more recent immigrants). If you are not able to find anything before you go and you are not going in high season, you could use the information you get at EPIC to plan something, but it doesn't sound like that's your style of travel. Have a great trip!

What about some combo of Athlone, Athreny Castle, Galway, Doolin or Lahinch. There's also a cave -- name escaping me.

You could probably still do cliff of Moher but Ring of Kerry and Killarney might be too ambitious given timeframe.
