My husband and I are taking my family to Dublin this December for 2 nights. I am reading about some of the crime that is happening in Dublin. Should we skip going there?

We just spent 2 days in Dublin at end of a trip. We had a wonderful time and felt totally safe.

I have been to Dublin four times, though not recently. Once I stayed just off Mountjoy Square near public housing, and it was safe. Dublin has always been much safer than American cities, even those half the size of the Irish capital.

I was in Dublin for 5 nights in February 2023 and stayed near St. Stephen's Green. Walking around both day and night (until around 10pm) we felt completely safe. A taxi driver told us to avoid the Temple Bar area in the evenings as it gets rowdy, but not because it was threatening. Thoroughly enjoyed an amazing city with warm, wonderfully friendly people, great beer, food, and sites. Enjoy!
