Have been reading recently about increase in rival gang violence in Dublin. Planning on staying there a few days at the end of our Ireland trip in May. Should I be concerned? Are there areas/places to avoid?
We will be there may 29th to june 2nd..we have not heard this and frankly dont see how it will affect tourists in mostly tourist areas, perhoas if you plan on visiting seedy bars late at night it might be an issue, but, i doubt thats in your plans. Lol
We were there two summers ago and felt very safe even late at night in cental dublin. I would leave hubby at bars and walk back to hotel alone at 11 or so at night too, and there actually was a very busy nightclub just across street from our hotel ( Diceys) and is still felt safe.
Greetings from Ireland (writing this from Dublin actually)
You can relax and plan to enjoy your holiday as the "increase in gang violence" has resulted in 2 murders in the last week, both gang members. I would imagine an American city of 1 million people would most likely have 1 drug-gang related murder per week, so no need for any fears.
Not trying to dispel the seriousness of the situation when drug-dealers begin shooting each other, but regular Irish citizens are completely unaffected by these internecine feuds between drug-gangs.
Ireland, North and South, is one of the safest destination for travellers anywhere in the world.

Stayed in central Dublin last year for one week and I felt totally safe all the time. We walked everywhere from the Temple Bar to Stephen's Green, Europe is much safer than the United States and it always amazes me when people ask me if I'm scared to go to Europe, I usually say no, I'm, scared to return to America.
Thanks for the insights and advice. I have talked to other recent Ireland travelers and was assured they had felt very safe while in Dublin. I'll just stay out of the "seedy bars" to avoid the crossfire. Thanks again Tom F
