Dublin's Emigration Museum

With due respect to Rick Steves' opinion, I just saw the "Emigration Museum" in Dublin. It's hidden underneath a shopping mall and appears to exist for the purpose of attracting customers to the stores. In my opinion, it's as accurate as a Disney film and as much a museum as Tomorrowland: lots of special effects, all virtual and nothing real.

On an only tangentially related note, my son and I grabbed several quick breakfasts and picnic lunches at the Spar stores that are all over the country because we found their deli to be surprisingly tasty. A sandwich made to order, some fruit and yogurt, and we were set. Don't pass it by simply because it's a chain.

Wow! People can certainly have different experiences. I found the Emigration museum incredibly moving, especially the historical part. Millions of people forced to leave their homes with family members dying around them is hardly a Disney film. I am not an expert on Irish history, but as an academic it seemed well-researched to me. I have to admit I paid less attention to the more contemporary focused parts on celebrities with Irish ancestry which may be some of what turned Stephen off.

My wife and I enjoyed the Emigration Museum. It was interesting to look up our Sir names and see where they came from. It is small, and half an hour to a hour is all you need.
