Dublin return thru Atlanta

Has anyone coming back from DUB had to make a connection in ATL? Haven't bought [these otherwise ideal] tickets because of concern over 1h25m layover time in Atlanta before connecting flight home. Does DUB still do US customs pre-clearance? Does that include the "passport control" that would otherwise have to be done in Atlanta as well? Hoping someone can say authoritatively that the short layover is definitely do-able. [Assuming the plane lands on time, which is another concern in itself] The next option is about 6 hrs in the Atlanta airport and getting home at 2 am. Thanks .

I don't know ATL well enough to tell you 1:25 is enough time, though in general I'd think it is. I do know that DUB pre-clears US-bound travelers. So landing in ATL will be as if you had flown domestically. And if you're on the same ticket for both flights, the fallback would be a later flight -- maybe not as late as six hours if another airline could get you home sooner.

There are never, ever any guarantees in air travel when it comes to connections.

I had a flight through JFK last January where airline changes left me with a 40 minute connection on a flight from Puerto Rico to a flight to Seattle. I was anxious about this at first and then decided to think through the "worst case scenario". In my case it was a night at the airport hotel and getting another flight in the am. I decided I could live with this if it happened and decided to just go with the flow. My flight was on time, I exited the gate and discovered my new gate was immediately next door. I had to sit and wait for boarding!

Atlanta is an airport where they have many connecting flights. Think about the "worst case" ( 6hours of waiting) and then decide if that is something you could live with. I think that the probability of making your connection is high.

Thanks all. Sounds as if there isn't really much to worry about beyond the usual. Reassuring to know it will be just a matter of getting from one gate to another, and the shuttle from the international terminal will probably drop us close to where we need to be.

You will, indeed, clear immigration and customs in DUB, so you'll walk off the pane and be right in the concourse. 1h25m should be fine.

And you may not be using the international terminal, since you won't need the CBP facilities. You could land at a domestic gate close to your connection gate. And if your landing is late they might get you off the plane ahead of others and whisk you to the next flight, which might even be holding for you. That's the positive scenario.
