We are a group of 8, 2 families all adults, one pescatarian. We are arriving in Dublin on Friday May 8th (overnight from Boston) and have a tour at Guinness booked for 4pm. We're looking for a place for dinner afterwards, 6-6:30pm. Would definitely prefer reservations. We're looking for traditional pub food for our first night, but with at least some lighter option (salad or soup is fine).
I'm looking at Brazen Head, they take reservations for 8 or more people (I'll email today). I also saw Lundy's Foot as a possibility. I would consider others in Temple bar area but given that we'll probably be ready to crash early, I'd be a bit nervous to aim for an extremely loud, crowded place that might be a long wait.
Any recommendations, or experience with the places I've already mentioned?
Thank you.
Couple of weeks ago, we did that with 4 people. Two of us toured the Guinness Storehouse (reservations needed, self-guided tour was great). We took about 2 hours for the tour, including learning to play drums in one room, and free beers on the top floor. Then the 4 of us took a horse carriage ride to the Brazen Head. You'd need two carriages. This was around noontime. No problem finding a table for 4. Food was very good pub food. I'm sure they'd have fish & chips or some fish meal. We were in a small room with a bar, and there were a lot of other rooms. Lots to see inside the Brazen Head. Friday night with 8 persons, I'd sure want reservations.
Next day, around 1 pm, we visited the Temple Bar. It was pretty packed then, good music. I'd hate to go there on a weekend evening.
Gallagher's Boxty House in Temple Bar is a restaurant I enjoyed and has been recommended on this forum over the years. It is not a pub and for 8 people on a Friday night, you would want reservations. Another suggestion, again not a pub, is the Guinness Storehouse Brasserie. I did not eat there but it seems to have good reviews and would be right there when you finish the tour on your jet-lagged first day.
Thanks, we were able to book a table at Brazen Head, so I think we'll stick with that. As I mentioned we'll probably be ready to crash early so a reservation at 6:15 is probably the best idea.
