Of course, Temple Bar is very popular! Right in the tourist zone.
We liked Brazen Head
Gravediggers Pub
The Palace Bar
If you get Netflix, there is a documentary called The Irish Pub. It was an interesting watch and learned so much about the pub culture.
Then we had fun visiting some of the pubs that were in the documentary.

And I’d stay away from Temple Bar like the plague.
About 20 minutes away from the city center is Cobblestones. http://cobblestonepub.ie

I enjoyed Temple Bar. It's the one area you can be sure to find live music from lunchtime till closing every day. Local pubs may only have music one or two nights a week. You can walk into a pub, have a look around (it's fun to explore the different rooms) and then decide if you like the ambiance and the music. Many pubs serve good food upstairs, where it's quieter and have only a limited menu for supper in the bar areas. You can get good, simple, cheap lunches in most pubs.
