Dublin or Belfast St. Patrick's Day?

Hi!
I will be arriving to Shannon on the 16th of the month and taking the train to Dublin the same morning. We (2 adults 2 children ages 16 and 15) will be staying at the Roxford Lodge for two nights, the 16th and the 17th. My question is do you think spending St. Patrick's Day in Dublin is worth it, or would you take a day trip via train up to Belfast to see another part of the country/festivities up there? We would have basically a 1/2 day on the 16th to explore Dublin, but I'm not sure if that is enough time in Dublin, as well as if the craziness in Dublin is too much on the 17th. We would have the morning of the 18th in Dublin, but then driving to Dingle. I would appreciate any input as this is our first time to Ireland, thanks!

I would stay put in Dublin for the two nights and view it as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and festivities and work in what attractions you can.
The “ Happiest Place on Earth” isn’t Disneyland on March 17— it’s Dublin!

This year? I'd say you'd better stick with what you have planned. If you're really worried about Dublin being too much on St. Patrick's Day, I would suggest trying to find accommodation in a city closer to Shannon and Dingle, but good luck with that at this late stage.
