Dublin & Newgrange

My boyfriend and I have about a day and half to spend in the Dublin area at the end of our trip in Ireland in mid-July. We are driving from Cork on a Tuesday morning, but we'd like to stop at the Rock of Cashel on our way to Dublin, so most of Tuesday likely will be taken up by that and the drive.

On Wednesday morning we'd like to head out (early, since I heard crowds are large in the summer) to see Newgrange and then come back after lunch to do a couple of things in Dublin. What are the top things that we can squeeze in -- either Tuesday evening or Wednesday afternoon?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

One obvious stop on the way from Cashel to Dublin is Glendalough...assuming you'd not already been there. Beautiful place with some scenic hikes adjacent to the monastic settlement. A meandering return drive via the Old Military Road thru the Wicklow Mountains would be a nice end to your day.
The Battle of the Boyne Visitor Center is a very short drive from Newgrange on Wednesday. Lots of Irish history in a very compact area, and the Hill of Tara is only another 30 minutes away.

Wouldn't particularly recommend taking your rental car into central Dublin - traffic can be murder even if you are familiar with driving on the left.

I enjoyed the most: National Museum Archeology (free admission, bog people), Kilmainham Gaol (hard to get tickets), Chester Beatty Library (at Dublin Castle, also free), General Post Office and walking around that area and along the Liffey. If there is not a line for the Book of Kells, it is nice, but I have read that sometimes you have to wait for an hour. I liked the Trinity College gift shop because I have 2 kids in college.

I also enjoyed the Brazen Head folklore dinner/evening. It is pricey and fairly tame but I love story telling.

I loved Newgrange. I highly recommend reading Ireland by Frank Delaney before you go as it will add some depth to the experience there.

I'm wanting to do a Newgrange/Tara tour, but Mary Gibbons is all booked up. Any other tour providers who would be recommended?

ellebgreen.....your post isn't going to generate many replies. Why?

Because you hitchhiked on a post dated in May.

Lem's trip has already been completed.
