It has been six years since my wife and I have been to Dublin. The cost of lodging appears to have doubled! Does anyone know why?

I'll hazard a guess that it's a combination of Covid (extra precautions cost money for the proprietors), pent-up demand after Covid (people who couldn't or didn't dare travel are now venturing out), and "because they can." People on these forums often suggest saving money by staying outside the city, but then you bear the cost in both money and time of "commuting" to & from Dublin itself (or London, or whatever expensive city), if it's the city you came to see.
