Dublin - Kinsale -???? - Galway

My husband and I are traveling to Ireland next week for my 40th birthday (to see Mumford and Sons)!! I visited in 2013 with a girlfriend so remember some of the areas but need help with an itinerary and suggestions on where to stay and what to see.

Here are my thoughts so far....

June 13th - Arrive in Dublin (explore city)

June 14th MUMFORD AND SONS CONCERT

June 15 - Drive from Dublin to Kinsale (Kilkenny, Rock of Cashal, Cahir, Cork). Any other must sees?

June 16 - Kinsale to??????? Thinking southern side of ROK, Killarney National Park, Cross river shannon?. What should we see and what town do you suggest we end at?

June 17 -?????? To Galway (would love to do Cliffs of Mohr at 8:00am but OK with getting up really early if needed) then drive from there to Galway. What should we see between COM and Galway and must see places in Galway

June 18th - Drive back to airport

Thank you for suggestions!!

With this itinerary, you’ll spend a lot of time in your car.

I spent a night in Kilkenny; then one in Waterford. Driving from Waterford to Kinsale with a stop at Cashel was a pretty full day that still allowed time for me to see and enjoy Kinsale. From Dublin to Kinsale takes 4 ½ - 5 hours on the road. Always add 30 – 60 minutes driving time to what Google maps (and other maps) suggest.

Kinsale to Galway is 3 ½ to 4 hours by the most direct route. If you go to the Cliffs of Mohr, that’s 3 ½ to 4 hours, then 2 to 2 ½ hours to Galway, so probably at least 6 hours driving.

Basically, you have 3 days to visit somewhere outside of Dublin. Depending on how early your flight leaves on June 18, you may need to be closer to Dublin than Galway.

I suggest that you pick an area to focus on so that you can enjoy that area rather than trying to cover so much territory. So, if you really want to see the Ring of Kerry area, then drive from Dublin to Killarney or Kenmare and spend a day touring the Killarney National Park area and a day driving the ROK with lots of stops.

Or you could drive from Dublin to Dingle on one day and explore Dingle in the afternoon, then spend the next day driving the Slea Head Drive; then visit the Cliffs of Mohr on the 3rd day and spend the night in Galway or closer to Dublin depending on your flight time.

I enjoyed Galway, but with only 3 days outside of Dublin, I would devote the time to smaller towns or cities and enjoying the rural countryside.

All the best,

Raymond
