Dublin - Kilkenny...add Wicklow/Glendalough or not?

We'll be in Ireland for 14 days, leaving in 3 weeks! Our first 2 days are in Dublin and on day 3 (Thursday) we pick up the (automatic) rental car at 9am and drive to Kilkenny. I have been planning the Military Rd to Glendalough to Kilkenny route.

In doing additional research and reading, I am wondering if that might be too long of a day and get us to Kilkenny rather late in the afternoon. We are spending the night in Kilkenny and on day 4 going to Rock of Cashel and continuing our drive to Kenmare.....So, if on day 3, we drive Dublin-Wicklow-Glendalough-Kilkenny and day 4 we drive Kilkenny-Rock of Cashel-Kenmare, will it be TOO much driving over 2 days? (There are 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 teens)

The rest of our trip slows down with 2 nights in Kenmare, 3 nights in Dingle, 4 nights in Connemara....we will have plenty of scenic driving opportunities.

That's a ton of driving in that period of time--you really won't be able to see any of Kilkenny. We did Powerscourt, then the Military Roud to Glendalough, then on to Kilkenny in one day, arriving late afternoon in Kilkenny. We then stayed a second night in Kilkenny so that we could enjoy the town. Leaving Kilkenny, we stopped at Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle before heading to Kenmare through Killarney National Park--it was a good day, but a long day, and an absolute TON of driving.

So, I'd say that if you want to see Kilkenny and you have lots of scenic driving already planned in, take the most direct route rather than the most scenic.
