Dublin Irish Dance Show

I will be in Ireland in June and I would love to catch a traditional Irish dance and music show in Dublin. I have already looked at the schedule for Riverdance and they will not be in the same city as me for the entire length of my trip. Some of the reviews I have been seeing for a few places (Johnnie Fox's, Arlington Hotel, and The Irish House Party) say the food is not very good and the atmosphere is touristy. I don't mind eating elsewhere and arriving just for the show if it means I would get a good performance.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a show in the downtown Dublin area?

I realize the reviews I have read could be wrong or rare bad experiences. If you have been to a show at one of the places I mentioned earlier in the post would you recommend it? Or did you have a similar experience of bad food and touristy atmosphere?

Thank you in advance for any advice you have to offer!

Megan,

I've been to a show at The Arlington and quite enjoyed it. I don't know if I'd characterize it as "touristy" and I only had Guinness so didn't try the food there. That type of show is put on for tourists, so I suppose it's reasonable to expect it to be "touristy" to some extent. As I recall, the show I saw took place in a large room downstairs.

Hi Megan,

It's been a while, but when we went to the Irish house Party, we had an absolutely fabulous evening. The food was lovely and music was fantastic. We visit Dublin very often, as I'm Irish, and the kids still rate it as one of the best evenings they enjoyed. And it certainly was not a 'Plastic Paddy' event.

Remember thousands of people will go to these events every year, enjoy it then not post on line about it.

We went to Johnny Fox's last year, and LOVED it! The food there was amazing (we were surprised how good it was). We took the pub bus there, but left the show early (around midnight) and took a cab back as we were traveling with our kids. The Hooley show was definitely worth it!!
