Dublin hotel - one night after RS-BOI 14 day

Hello all,

I'm hoping Stephen McPhilemy (or someone else) will be able to give me some advice. A friend and I are currently booked on the RS Best of Ireland tour this June 26-July 9. The tour begins in Dublin and ends in Belfast, but we got such a good price on round trips tickets to/from Dublin that we will be returning to Dublin early on the 9th and staying one night there before departing early on the 10th.

Here's the question - should we return to the city center and explore some more, or are there other locations we might want to see elsewhere, particularly since we will have spend June 25-27 in Dublin on the front leg of the tour? We were considering the Botanic Gardens, or venturing to Howth or Malahide. Do you have suggestions? If we do any of these items, do you recommend an airport hotel (we can do airport Hilton for $165), or staying in another location?

Thanks,
Annette

Hi Annette, greetings from Ireland!

I'd go for Malahide, its on the Northside and not all that far from the airport, and is a great authentic Dublin suburb, albeit received as a wee bit 'posh' :)

Good restaurants, walks, pubs, friendly people, a perfect goodbye to a great 2 weeks in Ireland.

On our Best of Ireland Tour you will have seen Dublin in-depth with your Rick Steves guide and our local guides, museums, free time etc.
Heres some good info on Malahide for you...

Let me know if you have any questions

Thank you, Stephen. We will definitely look into exploring Malahide.

Seriously, you will NOT have " seen Dublin indepth" in only two days.

That is a not a fair statement and a bit insulting to Dublin, we did 5 days there two years ago, and are going back for four this May.
The RS tour appears to give you one and half days there..

To be fair we did do a daytrip to Howth and loved it( hiked the cliffs and had the best mussels ever on the docks) , and a daytrip to Newgrange and Hill of Tara. So that used two days.
Suggest strongly you also check out Collins Barracks, and the National Museums of Ireland ( Natural and Archaeology ) .. see the Bog Mummies and the gold..
