Dublin Hop On Hop Off

Hi everyone, I'll be traveling to Dublin soon & have a question. I'm a little confused about the red & green buses. Rick says in his guidebook that the red bus has two people, one driver & one guide, as opposed to the green bus which only has a driver that acts as guide. Is this true? I ask because I've read elsewhere that the red bus only has recorded commentary...please help, thank you!

We took the red bus, which had a wonderful guide (not the driver) who provided commentary and sang to us.

Thank you Nancy!
Anyone else want to weigh in regarding the green or red?
Thanks!

Hi again, don't mean to be a pain, but is everyone in agreement that the red buses & green buses both have live commentary so...All things being equal, should I pick the least expensive of the two? It happens to be the green bus with a discount right now so...what do you all think/recommend? Thanks again! Cheers!

Ah.... But:
When I was in Dublin last June, every other bus seemed to have audio guides.
Not every bus on either had a live guide - you had to wait for the next one that does. We rode the Red, which did seem to have more buses with a live guide. One stop, we chose to wait it out, and luckily, the second bus had a guide.
I would buy the ticket at the moment that you board the bus with a live guide, not before.

Good to know, thanks Diane! I wonder why the red bus is so much more expensive... Did you happen to notice if the green bus had a driver & guide? Or just a driver? Maybe that's why it costs less than the red? Oh well, It'll be a blast anyway, ha! I'm going to quit overthinking everything & try to relax while I'm getting ready for an adventure of a lifetime! Thanks everyone! Cheers!

Both buses cost 18-19 euros for a day. The Green Bus is pushing it's 3-day Freedom Ticket online, but that's not the only option.

The Red Bus (City Sightseeing - Dublin)
Has three route now.
Red Route (the traditional Hop-on Hop-Off)
Yellow/City by Night Route (Docklands)
And the New Route the Blue Route (does half the red route and adds on the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin Cemetery and Croke Park Stadium)
They also have a southern stop for Campers staying near the M7.

The Green Bus (Dublin Bus Tours)
Only has two city routes, but has other all day tours not part of the hop-on hop-off.
Those route are very close to the Red Bus routes only the Yellow route is new for me and they don't have the Blue route.

Hope this helps.
