has anyone been there during the week between Christmas and New Year's. Is it necessary to buy tickets in advance and make dinner reservations, or are the crowds minimal. Also, recommendations for New Year's Eve. Many thanks,

I have not been in Dublin during that period. Out of curiosity I checked whether Kilmainham Gaol tickets were available for that time. Online tickets are sold out. That suggests to me that you should book time-sensitive or restricted access sites now. For example, the Mary Gibbons tour to Newgrange. For things like Dublin Castle, the Guiness tour or Book of Kells you're fine. Any high-end restaurant should be booked. Popular restaurants around St. Stephen's Green should also be reserved. I suspect that the popular places for New Year's Eve are already booked. Also note that a number of places may be closed on the 26th (Boxing Day).
