Dublin attractions/ timing

Will be in Dublin two full days and trying to map out a logical order (based upon hotel location) and also how much time for each. Willing to walk/see sites along the way as well.

We will be staying Staycity Aparthotels, Little Mary Street

I hope to book times at both Kilmahain Goal and Guinness store house (suggestions on when in day best welcome, (unfortunately, I'm still too early to lock in the goal).

Ideally, I will be working around these two locked in activities and will add/drop as desired. This is an exhaustive list and by NO means do we plan to visit all.

Thinking 2-3 stops a day and would love pub/casual lunch/dinner recommendations as well.

Guinness Storehouse
Kilmahain Goal
14 Henrietta street museum
Chester Beatty
Dublin castle
St Patricks Cathedral
EPIC
Phoenix park
St Stephens Green
suggestions?

Note Trinity/Book of Kells not listed as it will be closed.

Thank you in advance

On our last trip, we went to the Gaol the last time slot of the day, and closed it down. From there, we took a taxi to the Cobblestone Pub for outstanding music and a pint.

Maybe see the Guinness Storehouse on the other day, unless you want a pint there AND a pint at a pub.

We have been to Dublin 5-6 times, most recently for 7 days this past Sept/October..

Your two days will already be pretty full with the Gaol and the Storehouse.

You could probably see Dublin Castle (but skip the tour*), Chester Beatty museum, and St. Patrick’s all in one morning or afternoon. (You might also be able to squeeze in Marsh’s Library, near St. Patrick’s and small but really interesting.) These are kinda near Guinness Storehouse. But all that would make for a very long day.

(*Not sure if the guided tour of Dublin Castle is worth the time. It’s all furnished like a manor house, not a castle. Depends on your interest.)

14 Henrietta Street was really interesting, but it’s not really near anything else on your list, so keep that in mind. And FYI the tour is 90 minutes, or even a bit longer depending on the guide.

Phoenix Park is huge, and out of the way. Maybe save that for another trip.

St. Stephen’s Green is a walk in the park, literally. Very pretty. Lots of other things to see as you walk, such as Grafton Street, the Georgian houses surrounding the Green, etc. You could spend a few hours strolling around this part of town.

I have not been to the EPIC museum, though it’s recommended. It might be too much structured time for your two days, though.

You really can’t go wrong, though. Enjoy Dublin!

I have a feeling two of my children will be into the structure and two will not.

I can already book the storehouse, it's the gaol that is still outstanding. Doing both same day a bad idea?

14 Henrietta street being inconvenient was a concern. It does look super interesting. I'm think i'm going to take guided tour of Dublin castle off the list -- your correct furnished tour probably not a fit.

thanks so much for your feedback

You're getting great suggestions. I would add The Little Museum of Dublin. great, short tours, full of humor and info, very engaging.
We also loved Darkey Kelly's across from Christ Church. Great pub, great food.

While on a RS tour in Aug a few members did Guinness after the Prison. We did it on a separate day and closed it down but we are people who like to read everything and we did the special learn how to pour your own pint. That was a fun part of the tour and not too expensive.
We enjoyed Epic. It was very interactive.

MCM -
I'm don't know what state you are traveling from but here is my 2 cents about the Gaol.
The tickets fly out the same day they are available in a matter of minutes.
I live in the east coast so I was ready at 7:00 PM (12:00 AM in Dublin) to purchase the tickets as soon they released them at midnite.
I think they release tickets 30 days (?) in advance.
Become familiar with the website.

Thank you -- I have reminder in my phone and was planning to account for time difference. however, I didn't think to play around with it first though. that's a very worthwhile tip!

The EPIC Museum is very worthwhile and a very engaging museum We spent a couple hours here, very interactive and we did this with teens. I think it's worth a visit for anyone who goes to Dublin so if you can fit it in time wise I would.

I do recall the Kilmahain Gaol being further out of the "heart " of Dublin so for us it was kind of a half day affair between getting out there via public transit, walking to the place from transit, touring, and getting back to our home base off O'Connell St. where our hotel was. Still a good spot to visit but due to location could eat up more time then you realize.

Thank you....you're right. the gaol is a 45 minute walk from our hotel. I haven't investigated the public transport options yet. Worthwhile as it may be, it could also be a time suck.

EPIC will likely appeal to all....hoping I can sort of wing timing vs buy in advance though.

Also...considering the jeanie Johnston....

Anyone have thoughts on the leprechaun museum? worth it?

the need for timed tickets everywhere is forcing my hand to have a few things locked in.....

We went to the leprechaun museum in 2018. It was a spur of the moment thing, just walked by and it looked cute and the show was going to start fairly soon. It was cute, we had a fun time but had no expectations. I wouldn't chose it ahead of say, 14 Henrietta St, which was informative, extremely well done and very interesting. The Leprechaun Museum is more show and audience participation.
