Hello - I’m in Dublin right now and wondering where to buy an Aran sweater. I like to support local businesses when at all possible.
A post from 3/4/25 mentions Cleo Handknits and Weaves. Weavers of Ireland is also listed in another post ( multiple locations). I hope you find the perfect sweater!
Avoca Handweavers shows a few on their website. Their Dublin store is worth a visit, IMO, for woven clothes and accessories and homewares, not to mention their cafe. Suffolk Street. Avoca has a number of locations across Ireland.
Our RSE tour guide mentioned The Sweater Shop on Nassau Street when we were there in April.
My wife bought several of them on Inishmor (sp?) and they shipped them to the US and she claims they were $40 or so, far cheaper than the yarn to knit one yourself. Of course, she often lies about prices knowing I'll wince.
There's a shop on Grafton Street (sorry, don't remember name) that sells Aran sweaters that are tied (and weaved) to historic family names. We were told by the shopkeeper that the particular weave could help identify the village from which an unlucky (i.e., drowned) fisherman came so their family could be notified. Gruesome story, but that's the Irish for ya.
You can likely also buy them online but I know that's not quite the same experience as buying them in Ireland.

This isn't unique to Aran sweaters ,Mike.
Unique, intricate stitch patterns that were traditionally specific to individual fishing villages or even families are found in many parts of the UK. Have a look at this website.
The Kilkenny Design shop on Nassau Street (across from Trinity College) has all sorts of handmade goods from different artisans and small businesses. It would be worth a look.
True enough, Wasleys. Thanks for the link.

The OP is probably long gone from Dublin, but for future readers, I want to second the mention of Cleo's. She has authentic items including all the way up to the real handmade sweaters (€500+). The other shops we visited seemed to have all the same few brands
