Dublin and Belfast

Pulling into Dublin and Belfast on a cruise. Do not like the price of the excursions...what do you suggest are the high point of these two cities and how to do them... what did you think you wished you would not have spent time on?

Respect the fact you are visiting two different countries. Read up on the history of the Troubles.

Dublin, Ireland.
Book of Kells Trinity College
St Michan Church mummies
Sitting and people watching in St Patricks Park after visiting Marsh's Library
Ruins of St Kevin’s church
Walk along the River Liffey path
Enjoy a pint of Guinness at the traditional not cocktail lounge nor Gastropub, the Lord Edward. Its across the road from Christ Church which is worth a look see as well. Liked it better than the Cathedral.
Get a work out climbing the steps of Smithfield Tower to watch sunset.

Belfast, Northern Ireland
Mournes Seafood next to the Kelly Cellars Pub
Titanic Museum
Crumlin Road Gaol
Visit the Peace Wall/see the murals
The Spaniard Pub
Meander about St George’s Market
Take a tour or drive out to the Giants Causeway
Tour Antrim Castle Gardens

Dublin-
The Kilmainham Gaol tour is worthwhile but you probably have to get tickets in advance online
A nice walk down Grafton Street to St. Stephen’s Green (a beautiful urban park), stop at Bewley’s for coffee and cake AND/or Butler’s for chocolate on the way
The National Museum of Ireland-Archaeology is fabulous and free!
Stop in the Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Dublin, for the best Irish coffee I’ve ever had
The last time I was in Dublin (2019) there was no Uber but cabs were plentiful
Belfast-
Titanic Experience, very worthwhile
Black Taxi “Troubles” tour (I really think it’s better to go on one of these tours with your own driver as opposed to a tour bus)
Stop in the Crown Pub. You’ll see why
There is Uber in Belfast
Enjoy your cruise
Edited to add: If you’re interested in reading up on the Troubles, the book “Say Nothing” by Patrick Keefe is a terrific read.

In Dublin, my highLight was Dublin Castle and just walking around. I was quite disappointed in The Book of Kells and would not recommend it to anyone with limited time. You see one page while standing in a large crowd of people.

In Belfast, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Titanic Experience Museum. It is a high quality museum.

As a Northern Irish person honestly I'd skip the peace wall it's depressing and doesn't paint a accurate portrayal of Northern Ireland
