Hello travelers. In mid-November, three of us will land in Dublin (from Edinburgh) and want to train immediately to Killarney. We arrive at 12:50. There is a train at 15:00 and 17:05. Do you feel the first train allows enough time to pass through the airport and get to the station? Or should we 'play it safe' and take the later train? It is our first visit to Ireland so we have no experience with either flights or trains to draw upon. Thank you, in advance, for any insights you can share. Tom
You can buy online advance "semi-flexible" train tickets that permit you to take the train immediately before or after the one you booked; or you can buy fully flexible for a little higher cost that allow you to take any train that day. Sounds like semi-flexible would work well for your group.
I’m not sure how long it’ll take to get through security, but it’ll take you at least 40 minutes to get from Dublin airport to Heuston station to then catch the train to Killarney. I’d recommend taking the Airlink #747 bus. It leaves every 10-15 mins and costs €7/adult for a single (or €6 if you go to https://dodublin.ie/airport-transfers/airlink-express). If all goes to plan, you should be able to catch that first train.
Have a great time! Killarney is beautiful. So much to do and see there.
Thank you for your input Kimberly and CD. Rick's friends are always a great resource! ~Tom
