Dublin Airport Layover

We are considering our flight choices and have the option for a 20 hour layover in Dublin. We will be arriving from the US. We will have a number of checked bags, and I know that we will have to claim them and go through customs. Is it a pain to recheck them and then leave the airport during the layover?

I don’t think you have any alternative if you plan on booking the flight with the 20-hour layover.

As you are planning to have to claim your bags, it seems this is a 2 ticket journey?

If so, the 2nd airline may not be willing to accept the bags that far ahead of the flight time.

I have no idea what baggage storage there is at Dublin, but you should research that in case you cannot check the bags immediately after retrieval.

What time of day are the 20 hours? Presumably overnight? DUB has two good hotels on site, Maldron and Radisson Blu, where you could leave your bags if it's too early to check in. Easy bus service from the airport into central Dublin and back for whatever sightseeing time you can handle.

A few questions......

Is this one ticket?

Where are you headed after Dublin?

What airline(s)?

Depending on the airline, they may not hold the bags for a 20 hour layover. You need to check with the airline. If they will, you should be able to get your bags routed directly to your final destination. Check with the airline.

If this happens, you will have to go through immigration/passport control but not customs. Pack what you might need for one night in your carry on bag.
