DUB time allotment

How much time needed for customs? The 3 hours we have heard seems long.

I had carry on luggage when I went through DUB to Venice. I had about 3.5 hours layover. Single ticket checked luggage goes on to your final destination. Separate tickets checked luggage has to be claimed, rechecked and then you go through passport control then to your gate. I had two separate tickets and since I had carryon I didn’t have to claim my luggage and recheck. I went through passport control and then to my gate. But to me DUB is large and spread out. If you have a single ticket you simply walk the flight connection channel (it twists and turns) and at the end you’ll see a board with flight gates and then walk to the gate. I like DUB though. For me next time I’d count on min of 20 minutes to get off the plane, another 30 minutes to walk the channel and another 30 to walk to the gate. I don’t like to be stressed at airports so for me I look for double my minimum for layovers. I got to my gate with about 1.5 hours to spare.

Coming home from DUB is great. You go through US immigration at DUB so once back in the US grab your bags and go home.

One more thought. If you are asking how much time is needed to go through US preclearance I’d allow 3 hours minimum. On arrival to the airport you’ll get your boarding pass, check your luggage, go through security, then walk your way to US preclearance. First time for me I took a wrong turn, down a wrong flight of stairs, quite an adventure but once I found my way preclearance was pretty busy. I scanned my passport then waited quite awhile to talk to a customs agent, then I had to walk to my gate. I got to the airport 4.5 hours before my flight and had about a 1.5 wait to board. During that time waiting I watched one after another who missed their connecting flight. Seems there were two flights leaving at the same time to the same location. Those who missed their flights went to the wrong gate. One poor chap missed his flight by about 5 minutes.

I love having been to an airport and returning. Knowing the airport sure does lower the stress levels and allows a better idea of which flights work and which won’t. Have a good trip.

Do you mean customs or do you mean passport clearance? And are you talking about arrival in Dublin, or departure for the USA out of Dublin?
