Dual US/Irish citizenship?

I'm considering applying for dual citizenship. It would be no problem demonstrating that I qualify, and the process looks manageable.

Has anyone done this? I have two main questions at this point. Would this allow me to avoid the 90/180-day-stay limitation traveling around Europe? Have you found the tax implications to be particularly burdensome? I'd appreciate any information. Thanks!

Ireland is not currently part of the Schengen Visa zone that covers most of western Europe. That link might help you find what the Schengen entry rules are for Irish citizens.

You would be a citizen of an EEA country and as such would be able to stay as long as you like within the EEA and Switzerland, including being able to work. There might be local registration requirements for stay over a certain length.

The USA is the only citizenship in the developed world that taxes people on their worldwide income, even if they don't live in the country. Everywhere else it is a residency or territorial arrangement

Dual citizenship flows from birth or parental birth. You can switch citizenship by renunciation of the previous.

Becoming a non-citizen resident of another country is not particularly difficult.

If you form a foreign corporation and bring no income therefrom into the US it is not taxable.

I've no idea how all of this might apply to the Republic of Ireland.
