A friend and I will be in Ireland mid April, 1st trip! In reading Forum posts advice is best to stay in one place and explore from there. With that said we have alloyed 6 nights to explore areas by car around Dingle P., ROK, Sheepshead, Killarney Nat'l Park . Please advise town or towns to stay in to access these spots as day trips returning to home base or bases at night. I was thinking 4 nights in Castlemaine and 2 in Kinsale. Thoughts?
Our itinerary
2 nights in Dublin, train to Galway
2 nights in Galway, ferry to Aron Is 1 day , rent car next
1 night in Doolin to Cliffs of Moher, The Burren
1 night at Dromoland Castle
? 6 nights (suggestions please) to Dingle P, ROK, Sheepshead, Killarney Park
1 night in Cashel or Kilkenny
1 night in Dublin
On to 5 nights in Paris then back to Dublin to fly home ( flight to and from Dublin purchased before plans were set).
Appreciate your suggestions!
2 nights in Dingle
1 or 2 nights in Killarney
Then perhaps Kenmare or further down the ROK for 2 nights.
Kenmare is a convenient base for ROK, Killarney, and the Beara Peninsula (which is far more intereting than the Sheepshead Peninsula.) Kenmare has several good restaurants.
Thank you for input! What about staying 4 nights in Castlemaine then 2 in Kinsale? Castlemaine appears to be a central town driving wise could we take individual day trips from there to see sights on Dingle P , ROK and Killarney areas? Or are we best to break it up for 2 nights in Dingle then 2 in Kenmare.
I would go for 2 in Dingle and then on to Kenmare. You can visit Killarney NP on the way from Dingle. It’s fairly easy to go back to Killarney from Kenmare if you find you need more time there.
We will be in Kenmare for 4 nights in April, as we like it as a base for ROK and Beara. (Mizen Head is worth a visit, as well.)
