Read a number of topics that the app driving time vs actual driving time varies greatly in Ireland. Anyone know how long of a drive it is from Doolin to Dublin Airport? We have a flight around noon, and trying to figure out what time we need to hit the road to allow plenty of time for our flight. Thanks!
We used Google Maps in Ireland and found it to be accurate as far as directions. But we never arrived anywhere before the predicted time. Either we used every single minute of Google’s prediction, or it took a few minutes longer. If I was trying to make a flight in Dublin, I would add a substantial time cushion beyond the predicted time (an hour at least, IMO), which seems to be over three hours. Keep in mind that you’ll be doing U.S. preclearance at DUB (assuming a flight to the U.S.) so that takes extra time too. All of this would require a very early start from Doolin.
I’m rather risk averse, so we stayed at an airport hotel the night before our flight. Lessened a lot of stress. But everyone is different in that way.
General advice is to add 25% to Google drive times. I would want to allow AT LEAST 3.5 hours for the drive. Don't forget to allow time to drop off the hire car too - so maybe make that 4+ hours?
What time do you need to be at the airport before your flight?
For a 'flight around noon' I would be wanting to stay a lot closer to the airport with minimum driving that morning. Ideally an airport hotel then you can drop off the car the previous night and have a lie in and leisurely breakfast.
Ideal driving time is three hours but. as said add 25% more so maybe four hours. Then add in drop off time at car rental maybe shuttle to airport and a recommended three hours before the flight to allow US pre-clearance. that is seven hours if all goes well. That has you leaving Doolin at about 5AM. I would highly recommend either airport hotel or close by perhaps in Swords.the night before to reduce your stress. Good luck.
