We will be flying into Shannon on a Friday morning and directly driving to Dublin getting to our St Stephen's Green accomadation around 10:30. How is it driving in the city of Dublin? Would we be better off leaving the car in Newbridge and taking the bus/train? I am factoring in the jet lag issue affecting driving in the city.
We've been to Ireland numerous times, have always driven, and would never drive in Dublin...jet lagged or not. You won't need a car in the city anyway, so it would probably just sit in a garage during your stay while you rely on public transport to get you from place to place.
My advice would be to drop the car outside of town ( airport maybe) and bus, taxi, or DART from there.
Thanks Robert for the advice. Driving to the airportputs me about 35 minutes from hotel. Has anyone had experience taking the train from Newbridge which is about 45 minutes closer than the airport and only 30 minutes into the city?
The train service in Ireland is modern, efficient and relatively cheap. Looks like Newbridge to Dublin Heuston would be your better option ... then a short taxi ride to your hotel from there.
Thanks again. That's what I'm thinking but I was just looking for some reassurance about the choice
