We have a rental car booked for pick up at Shannon Airport. I know our US license is acceptable. I saw something in Rick's Ireland book and also on the rental car site about having a license for 2 years. We both had our license renewed this summer, so the issue date reads 6/16, with no original issue date showing. We have had our license for 30+years. Will this be a problem when we pick up the car? I went to the DMV today to see if I could obtain documentation. They say there is nothing they can give me with that documentation on it, just a record of tickets over the last 8 years( I have none). Maybe others have had a different experience, but you are like me, obviously have had a license for a while, I had no issue renting a car in ireland a number of years ago. I think it might be an issue if you are young, I did see some reference that the guideline applies if you are 21-22 years (under 21 you likely will not be able to rent), 1 year if your are 23-24, and if you are 25 or over, no requirement. I suggest reading the fine print of a prospective rental conpany or call them, it may clear everything up.

I found it very strange that the state has no record of original issue. So.... I went online to the DMV site, paid my 12 bucks for the husband and myself and zip, bam, boom... I now have a document that shows original issue.. Girl at the DMV was sadly misinformed and I feel better.
