We're driving from Dublin to our next destination in either Kenmare or Kinsale. We could have one overnight in Kinsale/Cobh area OR head straight to Kenmare (7-day stay) and take a day trip to Kinsale/Cobh. Advice appreciated!
From Dublin to Kenmare, you drive past the Cobh/Kinsale area, so if you really want to visit Kinsale or Cobh, it would save some time to spend the night there and tour the area before driving to Kenmare. Either city takes you a little out the way from the more direct Dublin to Kenmare routes, but if you go to Kenmare first, then take a day trip back to either, you’ll spend about 2 hours driving each way. So the day trip would involve about 4 hours on the road.
Thank you, fcraymond76 for your response. We are going to spend a night in Kinsale and we will probably wish we could spend two!
Kay,
You're welcome. Kinsale is a fun town. I was in Ireland just over 3 weeks and found that I could have enjoyed staying an extra night or two or more almost everywhere I went, but you can see a good bit of Kinsale in a day.
I stayed here; the owner also has a pub down the street and her son does walking tours.

Unfortunately, the Sea Gull house was not available for our dates but I will keep in mind the walking tours. We booked into Rocklands B&B. Thank you for all your help!
You're welcome.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
