Drive From Dingle- Galway

We plan to drive the scenic route from Dingle to Galway and sleep in Galway before our flight out of Shannon in the AM. I'm thinking this will take about 8 hours with a quick lunch stop and an hour at the cliffs (does this time estimate seem accurate). Can anyone provide advice on where to stop for lunch so that we can plan accordingly? I've been to Ireland before and if i recall correctly there are long stretches of grass with no snacks in sight! :)

Also- can I assume that there are plenty of gas stations enroute?

Greetings from the Island of long grassy stretches! :)

If I was you I would leave Dingle around 8.30 or 9, head via Tralee, stop in Adare, and do one of two things

  1. Grab a coffee in one of the beautiful thatched-cottage coffee shops on main street and then buy a picnic lunch to eat at the cliffs if the weather is ok
  2. stop in the surf town of lahinch and grab some lunch there

Its a bit of a drive from Galway to Shannon airport so be aware of time needs there, considering you do US customs clearance in Shannon airport.

Yes lots of gas stations (petrol stations in our lingo but we'll know what you mean, we're inundated with American tv) and theres lots of snacks, we Irish love our snacks.

Surely you'd prefer the coastal route, no? From Dingle we took the ferry between Tarbert and Killimer and were in Kilkee in time for a pub lunch (I can't offer a comparison to Adare). I recall that we got gas near Tralee and later near Shannon airport just before returning the car.

We stayed in Doolin before our drive to Shannon and it was an easy drive although we needed to leave before the B&B's breakfast time. You'd need to be up even earlier to drive from Galway but the roads are good.
