Please advise:
Fly into Dunlin stay over
Drive to Kilkenny 2 night
Drive to Killarney 2 nights
Then? We want to see Cliffs of Maher
Question stay in Doolin? Gallaway ir one night in each?
One don't stay in Killarney. On Rick Steves top ten tourist traps in Europe for good cause. It's only purpose is to seperate you from your money while wandering by Holiday Inns, leprechaun-y gift shops selling plastic shamrock nonsense. There is great stuff just OUTSIDE of Killarney but the city itself .....ugggh. Kenmare, Kilorglin or Castlemaine much better options than Killarney for lodging.
Cliffs of Moher are beautiful but tourist overrun. Tour buses and a strip mall at the bottom detract from the experience. If it's a must then I'd recommend Doolin. It's an extra 2 hours from the Cliffs to Galway. Galway is a nice city but it's a city. Plenty to do in the Doolin area.....the Burren, a day trip to the Aran Islands, excellent pubs and half an hour away the FAR better Cliffs Of Kilkee.
If you want to minimize driving......if you're near Killarney....you're on the Ring of Kerry......skip Moher/Doolin and just outside Portmagee are the fantastic Cliffs of Kerry which are the Wild, windswept, non touristy cliffs of Ireland that people want to see. Cliffs of Moher ARE beautiful.....but the experience lacks because of the setting and massive over commercialization of them......the Cliffs of Kilkee and especially the Cliffs of Kerry are far more enjoyable. Plus on limited time you would be able to get a taste of the Ring of Kerry, Skellig Ring and the wonders of that area and minimize driving. There is enough there for weeks of exploring.
Thank you! I thought Killarney would be centrally located?
Ok now i have 1 night Dublin
2 killkenny
2 kenmare
I hsve one more night begore heading back to Dublin? Add it on here or another location?
Kenmare offers many options. One day can be spent visiting all the things OUTSIDE of
Killarney........KIllarney National Forest, Gap of Dunloe, Ladies View, Ross Castle, Muckross House, Torc Waterfall, the Black Valley, Kissane Sheep Farm. Also if you like it in Kenmare is Dromquinna stables with great horseback riding either up in the hills or on the beach .....fantastic.
Another day can be spent on the south side of the Ring of Kerry and the Skellig Ring. There is Sneem, Staigue Ring Fort, absolutely insane views above Caherdaniel, Derrynane with its Ogham stone, Daniel O'Connell s house, wonderful Waterville and the Skellig Ring which has McCarthys Castle, Abbey Ruins, the Glen and Skellig Chocolates, the Cliffs of Kerry and Portmagee with access to Skellig Michael, and Valentia Island. An amazing day with so much to choose from.
Another day from Kenmare is to drive some of the totally non touristy very beautiful Beara Peninsula. Real, wonderful gorgeous Ireland.
Another day with about a 1 1\2=2 your drive or by relocating for a day there is Dingle and the incredible Slea Head Drive. One of the great scenic drives anywhere....dramatic ocean and cliff scenes, views of the Blasket islands, Celtic ruins, the town of Dingle, Dunquin with amazingly good home based bakeries, Gallarus Oratory, Connor Pass all in a Gaeltecht.. It's one of Ireland's highlights.
We've spent month long stays in the area and not exhausted the many things to do. So there are great things to fill 3 days. Just leave time for your own exploring....There is so much to discover and the time doing that and interacting with the amazing Irish people is pure magic.
ewewoolknit.......your answer makes me want to go there and see it all. WOW.......Sounds amazing. Can't wait. October 2019 can't come soon enough.
