Which would you prefer for 8 day trip, early May?
Right now I am staying in one of the glens of Antrim and doing strictly NI, but Donegal is tempting me.
I am a stay in one place kind of traveler, so day tripping to Donegal is not in the cards if I stay in Atrim glens.
But if I stay in Donegal town for instance, Derry and Giants causeway would be doable day trips.
I will have a car.

Maybe look at Letterkenny, which should give you good access in both directions. Or stay in Derry if you can find a place with parking.
I would stay in Derry which gives you easy access to both. To me, Giant's Causeway is a bit far from Donegal town for a day trip. But from Derry you can easily get to Causeway Coast on one side and Malin Head, Glenveagh, Ramelton, Portsalon, etc. on the other side.
