I have 16 days in Ireland and mostly all planned but still looking at the best way to go from Donegal to Cobh in 3.5 days. I have been to Dingle, Ring of Kerry, Galway and Aran Islands so I don't plan on going there again. I will stop at the Cliffs of Moher. Can I go from Donegal (actually staying on Island Cruit for 3 days) to possibly Doolin in one day or should I stop over at Westport or Leenane. I'm looking for best roads/scenic drive, castles or interesting stops. My second trip to Ireland and I am spending more time in Northern Ireland and the NW part of Ireland down to the southern part. Thank you for any suggestions.
Appears that you’re driving. You can get from Cruit Island to Doolin in about 4 hours, so it’s completely doable in a day. That is, if you don’t want another island stay, on Achill Island, which we enjoyed in 2018. We subsequently stayed outside of Donegal, but on the mainland.
We stayed uphill from Doolin, in Lisdoonvarna, for what it’s worth. Ennis, more inland, is another city known for Irish trad music.
The night before Cobh, consider staying in/near Macroom - we had a wonderful visit there last year. I hope the road construction close to Cork/Cobh is finished. It was a bottleneck in places last year.
