Do I need hotel/BnB reservations? mid-March trip around Ireland

Family of 4, boys are 11 and very good travellers - we've taken a trip like this the past 2 Springs. I have booked hotel in Dublin when we arrive and when depart as well as our rental car for the trip. We plan to drive around the island, starting in the North on the 18th. Would like to have some flexibility about where we end up each day. Any thoughts appreciated.

Having traveled the past two springs, assuming it was Europe, you should have a pretty good idea already on the lodging situation. My guess is you wouldn’t have an issue unless visiting a place during a major festival, or one so small there is little lodging.

Hotels should be fine for walk in bookings after st Patrick's day, if you have your heart set on particular B&Bs I'd ring ahead and let them know you are coming, a lot of smaller B&Bs take down their vacancy signs for the winter and reopen Easter.

I took three kids (and my ex), in a leased seven passenger car, roughly from Amsterdam through Koln, Rhine, Munich, Salzburg, Verona, Venice, Florence, Cinque Terra, Orvieto and Rome. The only reservations were for Amsterdam on arrival and Rome before departure. We did fine.

We didn't get divorced until ten years after that trip so I don't think no reservations was the reason.

I've done other trips both solo and as a couple without reservations and never went homeless. Generally I just call, tell them what I need, listen to what they can offer, ask the price if it will work, book if the price is good.
