Right now I can get a roundtrip ticket from Boston to Dublin (Nov-Feb) for $350 - an amazing value on sale until next week. The business class tickets are $1,800 - $1,900 one way and did not reduce with this sale. Do Business Class prices typically remain the same no matter when they are purchased?
My spouse flies business class to Dublin for work from the west coast. $1800 is the lowest I’ve seen.
Aer Lingus does the seat auction deal. Buy an economy class ticket and about a week before departure, you'll get an email asking if you want to bid on a business class seat. So maybe you can put in a bid? They do sort of hint about what an acceptable price range might be.
"Do Business Class prices typically remain the same no matter when they are purchased?"
Generally, since business class purchasers are less price-sensitive, sales are much less common, on all carriers. Of course, there can be a sale - but don't count on one.
Remember, airlines only put seats on sale when they need to fill them. If seats are selling, the prices don't go down. That explains the sale you found - flights from the US to Ireland in winter are not in high demand by leisure travelers, so they are discounting the coach seats to fill the plane. Business class seats to Dublin in winter are more likely to be taken by those who have to fly then, so the airline probably doesn't need to discount them.
Again, like a stock, "past performance is not a predictor of future performance" - but it's all we've got to go on!
We bought economy tickets on Aer Lingus for our trip in September 2017 and won the bid for business class tickets. I think we bid $420. (We were traveling Chicago to Dublin).
Thanks all! I'm glad to hear Aer Lingus still does the auctions for Business Class. I did that 3 years ago and it worked great. That might be the best plan.
I was going to say the same. I bought an economy seat and they asked me if I wanted to bid for an upgrade. You can Google for information on good bidding strategy.
