Is the end of October too late to be going to dingle?
5 days in Ireland. Trying to make an itinerary. Flying in and out of Dublin. Would love to see dingle. Arrival day we’re going to stay in Dublin
There is no way to tell what it will be like in Ireland-we did the RS tour in late August post Covid and it was perfect every day. I flew in on business one day to Belfast in July, and while landing through sheets of rain, the Captain came on to say "it's a perfect October day!
No - not too late. Last year's monthly summary for October shows mostly sunny days in the 50's and 60's with only a few rainy days.
Rather than a 5 hour drive across the island you might want to research direct flights from Dublin to the Kerry airport near Killarney, which is about an hour by car from Dingle. Ryan Air has two flights per day - one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Depending on your arrival time at Dublin airport it might be more convenient to just continue on the Dingle that day since you'll already be at the airport anyway..
There are rental car concessions at the Kerry airport.
Hi, we 've been in Ireland since Sept. 9 (2025), and we leave on Sept. 29. It has been very cool, windy, and rainy, although it stopped raining a few days ago. It has been windy, from mild to "very". Temp during the day has been a high of about 62, but here in Dingle (yesterday and today) the high will be 55. And windy... Rain is predicted for tomorrow and the rest of the week.degrees. lowest morning temp has been 41 deg.
In spite of wet weather (it had been raining on and off), it has been a great trip. Since it is very hard to predict the weather, and predictions are not accurate, I would say come in October, or whenever. Just bring sweaters, a rain coat, a wind-proof cap plus a rain hat, plus light weight scarves plus one heavier weight scarf, and gloves. I would also consider layering your pants with leggings, depending on outside activities.
We live in San Antonio, and I am more sensitive to cold than my husband, so consider that, as well. :)
Our trip has been amazing, starting with an organized tour for 10 days in northern Ireland, with
Tommy and Saundra O'Sullivan (Courthouse Tours) and that included Bill Neely (well known Irish reporter who grew up in Belfast).
(Tommy and Saundra also run O'Sullivan's Courthouse Pub in Dingle, and travel to the US to perform Irish music at hosted house concerts, which is how we met them. Very talented!) They also run Republic of Ireland tours.
After that tour, we rented a car in Belfast and have been driving in the Republic for the last 5 days. We are now in Dingle and leave tomorrow for Galway.
It has been a fantastic trip, in spite of the "iffy" weather.
BTW, we've been told by local folks that this time of year is usually dry and sunny, but they got "beautiful summer weather this year, when it is usually rainy."
Go figure!
