Dingle - Tower B&B & Food Festival

Greetings!

We just realized that our last night in Dingle (Sept. 29th) will be the start of their 2017 Food Festival. Has anyone experienced the festival? At first we were "dang, dingle is going to be crowded." But now we are kind of looking forward to the festival.

Also, has anyone stayed at the Tower B&B? We are trying to decide between the Tower and the Milestone (which has gotten a thumbs up on this site). The plus side of the Tower is it is a bit closer to town and we will not have to cross "the bridge" at night that RX talks about in his book.

Thanks!

We stayed at Milestone House several times and had no problems with the bridge at night--in fact, we don't even remember the bridge!

PJ,

RS list lodging beyond the roundabout and bridge at the western end of town (Milestone House is included). He states these B&Bs work best for drivers, as the heavily trafficked, unlit bridge has no sidewalks....making it a dicey crossing for pedestrians, especially at night. Looking at the map in the book it looks like the bridge crosses the narrowest part of the Dingle Bay and you would have to cross it to get to the Milestone House.

Sorry! I had assumed from previous posts that you would be driving. I really can't speak to the walkability of the route from Milestone House to "downtown" except to say it would be a bit of a hike. We always drove and auto traffic was not a problem for us (both times we were there it was mid to late September--I'm sure things are different in the high season or during a festival).

PJ,

You are correct, we will have a car. I believe the Milestone house is 1.1 miles to the center of Dingle, which is a doable walk for us. Especially if it is along a scenic route. The Tower B&B is a bit closer at .7 of a mile. We were thinking that it might be easier to walk into town then to try and find a place to park. But we are not opposed to driving into town if we know where to find parking :) It appears that a lot of the hotel/B&Bs that are closer to town are already full....perhaps the festival goers do not plan on driving.

If it is any help there is a rather large car park by the marina at the end of town. We used it every day. It wasn't expensive (and I believe it may have been free in the evenings and on Sunday) and was never full, though that might not be the case during the Food Festival. My concerns about walking are less about distance and more about weather and darkness (it is very dark once you get out of town!), especially if you've enjoyed a late night at the pubs:-)
