Derry to Galway without a car

Hi,
I am traveling from Derry to Galway and would like to stop in Sligo for lunch before my final stop in Galway.
The bus seems the only way to go, but it is confusing online because of the Northern Ireland to Ireland exchange.

Should I be looking at Bus travel from Derry to Strabane and then Strabane to Sligo to Derry?
Any other alternatives for the travel besides renting a car?

Bus Eireann run the Expressway Route 64 every 2 hours- which is direct from Derry to Sligo, and then Sligo to Galway on the next bus 2 hours later

You can pay for the ticket on board in with euro currency of Ireland or with pounds currency of Northern Ireland
