Departure flight question

Hi all,

Our departure flight from Ireland is from Dublin on June 11th, which is a Sunday. I am not sure where we should stay that night in order to get to the airport in time for our flight.

Our flight leaves around 6:15 a.m. from Dublin to Amsterdam, and then to Houston.

Do we still need to be at the airport 3 hours before departure? Will they be screening for the US at that time, though we will leave for the States from Amsterdam on the same day?

We would like to return the car the day before departure, but I am not sure if the car rental agencies will be open on a Sunday evening.

The flight from Dublin to Amsterdam is consider domestic. At that time of day, I am sure two hours will be enough.

Hi ginger.

You might want to stay at an hotel at the airport. With a flight of leaving that early you want to be close. Also see if you can verify what time check in is started.

I had an 8: 30 am flight and I got to CDG at 6:00. Unfortunately, the check in did not begin until 6:30. The good news was that I was first in line.

If you stay at the airport you won't have to worry about transportation to the support.

It's only a 30 minute drive from central Dublin to the airport via taxi, and at that hour traffic will not be an impediment - so you're not going to save much time by staying in an airport hotel.
Personally, I'd drop the car the night before as you suggest, then find a nice place in the city to enjoy your last night and just spring for a taxi the next morning...which your accommodation can book for you in advance. There's a very economical and efficient Airlink service connecting the airport with the city, but we much prefer the taxi for the comfort and convenience involved - one less stresser on getaway day.

A flight between Dublin and Amsterdam is certainly not domestic - short-haul is what you mean.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations.

Dropping the car off night before is the plan, but we may just go ahead and find an airport hotel with shuttle since we may need to be at the airport at 4 am for 6:15 flight :(

There are numerous hotels near Dublin Airport. Just make sure they have shuttle service that early.

Since you first fly to Amsterdam, you will not go through U.S. screening in Dublin. That's only for direct flights to the U.S. If Houston is your first stop in the U.S., you will go through immigration and customs there.

Two hours should be more than enough time at that hour.

However, you might want to go to the Amsterdam airport transfer page plug in your flight information and it will tell you what to expect.

Thanks Frank. Will definitely use the link for Amsterdam. Yes, Houston is where we will go through custom. It's always a madhouse there, but hoping Sunday evening is a little less.
