December, I need a trip!

We are interested in finding a place to go in December for 2 weeks. Husband has always wanted to go to Ireland and this is his only time to be away from work. Our big worry is the weather, I am not really a cold weather person, but can tolerate 40 degrees as a low. We are interested in hiking and enjoying nature.

I don't really care where we go, Ireland, England, France just trying to find do able weather conditions. Open to suggestions on places to go other then Caribbean or Mexico.

I think that Spain or Italy would work for December. A lot of Holiday Events too. Check with some of Rick's City Tours.

Go for it. Just remember the Norwegian saying “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes" came from Viking tourist visiting Ireland and Scotland.

Daylight hours will be short but pub life I s warm and friendly.

If Antarctica, New Zealand/Australia are on your bucklet list, December is a good time to visit each of those locations. Haven't personally been, but many like the Galapagos

Many would say two weeks is not enough time for all of NZ and Australia (I agree), but we visited those on a 16-day cruise, and we were pleased to see some of the highlights....but there is still sooooo much more to see (as there is with ANY trip).

All of those locations are in their 'summer' during our winter.

When we were in Antarctica (National Geographic Expedition....wonderful), it was actually warmer there than it was on the same days in Nashville.

I went to Ireland in Feb. and had a wonderful trip. After about 10 days we were a little weary of the damp, cold and wind and took a flight to France, but there were plenty of days when the weather was pleasant. Our main problem was how cold it was in the B&Bs at night. They said it was typical that they turn off the heat at night. We had brought fleece sleeping bags with us (which I usually take for winter travel) and were so glad we did!
However, for another suggestion I might opt for Germany and the Christmas markets, or Paris and they also have a wonderful Xmas market. It was pretty quiet in Feb. in Ireland.
The south of Spain might be a wonderful option... I don't think I would want to travel someplace that I could only 'tolerate' the weather. The dampness can make it feel colder.

Cuba. Fascinating city and trust me once the embargo is lifted the lost in time beauty will be destroyed. And yes, Americans can visit. I went 2 years ago as a guest of The International Film and TV School (and before the scandal) but there are groups in the States who can arrange trips. NOT at all difficult. Go, visit a country like no other and enjoy it uniqueness before it's gone.

Cuba... definitely, although I have not made it there myself its on my radar in the next year or two. There are plenty of tours there so I would try for that... Nice weather too!

Cuba has some great diving and old cars but looking for something different then Caribbean Islands, maybe Greece? I guess the sensible thing to do is look at weather for all the areas and decide from there.

I know a number of people who have been to Cuba and from what I heard it is not even close to the Caribbean... it has been caught in a time warp for decades... however, if that's not in the running...
Another thought might be south of Spain and adding in the mix of Morocco.

I went to Paris and Normandy in Dec. and that was very tolerable. As a matter of fact, a few days no jacket even needed.
Normandy and Mt. St. Michel were great at that time of year. Very few tourists and a chance to really experience these areas without hordes of people. Also love St. Malo and Bayeux. Plenty to do in Paris (inside) if weather is bad.

Terry k Thanks for all the help with my Dec trip, Cuba is lovely(been 2 times) hit the island when I went to the northern Caribbean Sea Islands to dive.
I am really leaning toward Barcelona, Paris and Rome. I am in the middle of finalizing my Italy trip for August, so already in love with Rome.
