Dealing With A Car in Dublin

We will be arriving in Dublin with a car in September. Since it is only part way through our trip we don't want to have to turn it in and then pick up another one two or three days later. Any suggestions?

Park it as soon as you get there and do not rely on it to get around. We do this in NYC too

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like get in and get out. I live in LA and have lived in Boston. Dublin sounds more like Boston.

As a side note and unless things have changed, since you'll be driving into the city, you'll probably have to drive on its beltway. There is a small fee for doing so (a few pounds) and you'll need to pay it before turning in your rental car. That should be explained to you when you pick up the rental. Not a big deal since you can pay it at a number of places.

Thanks, that is good to know. Are there other tolls elsewhere in the country?

I just returned from Dublin a few days ago. If you drive a five speed, they are much less expensive to rent than an automatic. I'm comfortable driving in NYC, Boston. I wasn't sure what to expect in Dublin, but I found it much, much easier than NYC and Boston. I rented my car from Enterprise Car rental, which I use when I travel in the US. I drove on the various highways which just scan the car license plate of your car to bill for the toll. I and was told by the Enterprise agent to pay the toll online with a credit card before 8pm each day. If I did that, I would save the fee that the the car rental agency charges to process this and the penalty that gets accessed if you pay after the 8pm deadline. I did that each day, no problem, no extra charges. All you need is the car registration number, which is what you enter so it's properly credited.
