We will have most of a day to take a driving trip outside of Galway. Friends who will be accompanying us must catch the train to Dublin by 5:00 so we will only have 7-8 hours. Any suggestions for a loop up into Connemara that would allow time for sightseeing as well as drive time and still be back in Galway by early evening? I'd love to see Kylemore Abbey as well as possibly drive the Sky Road, Cong, etc.
I put in a vote for the Burren; I enjoyed it far more than Connemara. The Burren is a truly unique limestone landscape/moonscape extending to the water, with Neolithic tombs, early Christian sites, and wonderful wildflowers in the fissures in the rock. There are good walking tours in the area, and we also enjoyed a visit to the Burren Perfumery.
