Day Trip Travel Advice: Dublin to Midleton Distillery

Hi all -

Looking for some public transportation travel advice here. My family and I are taking a trip next month to Ireland & have a day trip to the Jameson Midleton Distillery planned. I have looked online and am trying to decide the best course of action to get there from Dublin.

It looks like there is a train to Cork we are taking no matter what. The main question is should we get off at Cork & take the 45 min local bus to the distillery OR should we take a transfer from Cork to Midleton via the train & then either walk the 20 minutes to the distillery/take a local bus?

I would love to know what you think the best course of action to take here is, or if anyone has done this before. My only concern of going to Cork & taking the bus to the distillery is the return trip. Our tour ends at about 5pm ish & if we take a 45 min bus that could get delayed, I don’t want us to miss the last train out that I believe departs around 7/30pm. I feel like I’m being extra for that part but want to check on others thoughts.

TYIA!!

Replying to my own post - I am incorrect in that it looks like the last train out of Cork is closer to 8pm. So realistically, we should be fine time wise.

Would still love any advice or notes from anyone who has done this day trip!

@bethmferg1 here is my update with some extra info too!
So travel wise, I wound up contacting the distillery directly to ask them if they had a direct bus from the city of Cork to them as somewhere on the website mentioned it, but that is no longer in service. They recommended a cab company to reach out to (Midleton Cabs, contact Michael [email protected]). We wound up taking the early train from Dublin to Cork, eating brunch there, getting a cab over, a cab back after, and the last train back to Dublin. It definitely was easy enough, but honestly taking the commuter train from Cork to Midleton would have been just as easy (and cheaper!!). The taxi cab was clean and a direct transport, but cost us 90 euro there and back. This seemed exorbitant considering the total amount of time in the car there and back was maximum 30 minutes total. So I think it comes down to preference, and if you go with the taxi I would confirm the total cost ahead of time when booking through email.

Now some advice from our tour itself - since this was such a big day trip from Dublin to Cork we decided to book the top tour option they had (Apprentice Tour for €150 each). It was by chance that we planned this day trip for a Sunday and it turns out they only offer this tour option on the weekends! We highly recommend this option as you get to go beyond the standard tour and see the grounds, see the actual distillery where they currently make the product, and into the cask storage room (it’s where they store casks for people who buy one for hundreds of thousands of dollars and get their cask bottled every so often). Our tour guide was amazing and again by chance that this was his last day before moving onto a cidar orchard, but he definitely showed us all the best parts & more. And again by chance, the other members of our tour didn’t show up for the first hour so we basically got a private tour for the most part!!

Let me know if I can send any other info, I am happy to share!
